Celebrating more than 25 years of quality music, Grand Symphonic Winds is dedicated to providing musicians the opportunity to perform music of many periods and styles while offering music-lovers throughout the Twin Cities area a chance to enjoy this same music. Under the leadership of Music Director Dr. Matthew George, GSW continues to grow as one of the most versatile and accomplished civic ensembles in the area. Read more about GSW's history in detail.

The Grand Symphonic Winds rehearse every Thursday night from 7:00 to 9:00 in the Brady Educational Center [campus map] on the St. Paul Campus of the University of St. Thomas during the concert season. The University of St. Thomas Department of Music graciously allows the GSW to use its facilities and percussion equipment.

Mission

GSW’s mission is to create opportunities for dedicated and accomplished musicians from the Twin Cities area to experience and perform music of the highest quality and integrity, and to make this music accessible to the public. GSW endeavors to share with its community the broad and exciting capabilities of the wind ensemble, and to effectively express the value of serious music to the city.

The Grand Symphonic Winds was founded in 1987 with the intention of becoming a high quality civic wind ensemble. Grand Symphonic Winds are a civic wind ensemble organized under the Minnesota Nonprofit Corporate Act (MINN. Stat. Cha. 317A), exclusively for charitable educational, religious or scientific purposes within the meaning of Section 501c(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

As a non-profit organization, GSW depends of the generosity of individual contributors and businesses. With your help, GSW will continue to perform music of the highest quality and to support music education in Minnesota and life-long learning through music.
